For those people who have watched the first episode of Gintama on ABS-CBN, which in actuality was Episode 05, last Monday… You may notice that there is something wrong about it (aside from the usual from Local TV Networks, like the shortened OP and ED titles, etc.), which is actually quite disturbing.
Though I have already expected that there will be both bashing and some constructive criticisms, on the dubbing and translation, from the “Die-hard” Gintama fans and those otakus that prefer Japanese Audio, there are just some things that you just cannot ignore and tell everyone… What the bloody hell?
Before moving on, for those who have not seen the “pilot” episode, you can see it here:
Now moving on, first obvious thing that you will ask after you find out that it was actually Episode 05 that has been aired, and not the actual Episode 01, is WHY?
Our colleague, “pinoy_big_narutonian,” had formulated some theories and possible situations into why ABS-CBN had done that (http://ow.ly/Yg5C)… for example, showing Gintoki’s backstory first before moving on to the fun stuffs. But when our other colleague, “theBlocker,” had complained to the Official ABS-CBN Animation facebook page about the episode skipping, they had said something about this:
“hello! we re-arranged the episodes of Gintama for the younger viewers to understand it better. thanks for watching our pilot!”
— ABS-CBN Animation (http://ow.ly/YgdE)
Again, the reaction is… Seriously, What the bloody hell?
Did they just said “younger viewers…?” It seems that ABS-CBN has not clearly studied the anime thoroughly, or at least take a look at the MyAnimeList Article, which had clearly stated that the anime programme is Rated PG-13. If you ask me, this is probably a Red Flag for those Otakus who don’t like terrestrial tv… Because of things like, the Mainstream Money-Milking Machine called “Naruto”, the Massacre of BLEACH, and the many names of Code Geass (or Diyes, or Jizz), add to that is the issue of TV Promos of ABS-CBN misinterpreting Gintama for an another Action Shounen anime is already bad.
But since there’s ABS-CBN Animation facebook page, I hope that they are truly listening because they need some damage control after TV5 had done to their crappy and disgraced HEROZone, though they may still need to change their ideology about anime…
Japanese Anime = Animation / Animated Programmes
Animation / Animated Programmes = Cartoons
Cartoons = Kids (from 2 years old – above)
This issue is still developing, Let’s see where it will takes us next. But if you don’t like it at all, period… Just do this: USE THE REMOTE.
