PASAY CITY, Philippines — Napagkakaisa ang Magkaiba (in English, Where differences unite), that is the new motto of the revitalized Associated Broadcasting Company, which is much widely known as TV5, now under the wing of MediaQuest Holdings, Inc. lead by PLDT and TV5 Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan in a grand trade presentation held last March 25, 2010 at the World Trade Center.
It was a very exciting night filled with new hope, and a fresh start for the network, as they introduced a new set of programmes for the revitalized network which is now under the media tycoon. The trade launch is just a symbolism, saying that the so-called Duopoly of the major networks (ABS-CBN and GMA) has been broken and things will now heat up from now on, though the network will believe that two “enemies” can still be together, and they will not going to be a big, intimidating network. And they are positioning themselves under a brand new identity — KAPATID.
Personalities that had signed-on to be a part of the network has been fomally introduced to the trade event, which included Paolo Bediones, Maricel Soriano, Cheryl Cosim, Carla Humpries, JC De Vera, Ruffa Gutierrez, Cristy Fermin, Rainier Castillo, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, and Luchi Cruz-Valdez (who heads the News & Information division).
They have also introduced programmes that will be a part of the TV5 programming, which includes comedy programmes like My Darling Aswang (a sequel of the hit movie, Ang Darling Kong Aswang) starting Vic Sotto and Daiana Meneses, Pidol’s Wonderland starting Dolphy, Vandolph, and Eric Quizon. Noontime shows like, Face to Face (which premiered last March 22) hosted by Amy Perez, and Korean Dramas like High Kick, My Wife is a Super Woman, and Smile Honey.
TV5 News and Public Affairs has been re-energized, led by Luchi Cruz-Valdez, and is now known as NEWS 5. And with this new direction, they have introduced new news programmes, aside from USI: Under Special Investigation and Tutok Tulfo which had been launched last two weeks ago, like Timbangan which scrutinizes the platforms of the presidential hopefuls (hosted by Prof. Winnie Monsod), the return of the unbelievable duo of Maverick & Ariel on Totoo TV. Also introduced are the two major weekday newscasts, like SAPUL! (a morning news programme, hosted by Erwin Tulfo, Martin Andanar, Lourd de Veyra, and Shawn Yao) and AKSYON (the new primetime newscast, presented by Paolo Bediones and Cheryl Cosim). NEWS 5 also introduced their brand new slogan, Higit sa balita, AKSYON!
And on the Kids & Teens Programming, TV5 Kids will be airing western animations like Lola & Virginia, Oggy & the Cockroaches, and the popular Cartoon Network programme Ben 10, and they are also set to air the telemovies from the Ben10 Series, BEN 10: Race Against Time & BEN 10: Alien Swarm. And after more than two decades, the popular icon BATIBOT will return to TV screens on TV5.
And on TV5 AniMEGA, TV5 is also set to are the biggest anime titles to hit network television, started off with FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: Brotherhood with brand new episodes, the most provocative GOLGO 13, and the epic D.GRAY-MAN.
Plus they have finally introduced new titles to hit in the coming months, with the adventure anime YATTERMAN!, the most dramatic anime programme that can be compared to any teledramas, CLANNAD, and the most shocking surprise of the night as TV5, as they have acquired both INUYASHA and INUYASHA: The Final Act.
As we remember, InuYasha has been aired on ABS-CBN and HEROtv a few years ago, and INUYASHA: The Final Act is set to air its final two episodes on ANIMAX Philippines these coming two weeks.
Very shocking acquisitions of big anime titles, and we expect more bigger titles to come, as we asked the Telecom tycoon and TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan if they believe the youth market will support TV5’s new programming, and he replied, “I hope so”, and also said that the teens market is also a part of their programming thrust.
And finally, they have introduced the new station identity of the channel, which symbolizes the brotherhood/sisterhood of everyone in the network, whether they came from the Kapamilya channel or the Kapuso channel, saying that even though there had been some differences, we can all unite.
And that’s what TV5 is all about. Kapatid.
