Time flies so fast, ever since the first edition…
But before we get started, I just want to inform everyone that according to Otaku’s Verdict’s tweet, the popular anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica has officially been included in the choices for Japan’s Newest Anime Title category for this year’s Otaku’s Verdict.
And I’m very glad for those people who have given their feedback on my first seasonal review for ZEN. And in fact, I heard that some people will watch the two titles that had been featured on the segment last time.
I would like to thank everyone for their support and I promise to bring you more reviews and recommendations of anime series that are aired during the season.
Spring is one of the two seasons where Japanese networks air the highest number of Anime titles. Spring is also the time when they air anime titles that eventually becomes a phenomenal hit worldwide. For example, Soul Eater, Special A, Vampire Knight, K-ON!, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Sengoku Basara, Angel Beats, Working!! and many more.
I have noticed that some viewers are taking an interest to watch those Originally-produced anime titles, though I wonder if those titles are more exciting to watch than those animes adapted from a manga or a video game… Just take a look on those anime watcher that go crazy for Puella Magi Madoka Magica.
Take note, Madoka Magica is an original anime series. The series premiered in Japan last January, and a manga adaptation was serialized a month later.
So many disappointments last season, which I dubbed the “Mahou Shoujo” season, but this season has experienced a rebound!
This year’s spring season has a wide variety of anime titles to choose from. From a calm, ordinary school life to a thrilling, extraordinary scenarios which involves an exorcist and superheroes, and is another season that you shouldn’t have missed.
We could say that the story between the two siblings had ended last year, but the “True Route” of Ore no Imouto has just been revealed, and the final episode was “screened” last month. On this route, Kirino Kousaka has decided to leave their home to persue a training in the sport track and field in America without his big brother Kyousuke knowing.
And then, Ruri Gokou (better known as Kuroneko) has attended the same school where Kyousuke attends and eventually became more closer to him. But in the end, Kyousuke had confessed that he felt lonely without his little sister and convinced Kirino to go back to Japan and be reunited with her family, friends and of course, her hobby.
What exactly is the lesson of this 4-part OVA? Simple. You may have argument or disagreements with your sibling, or any other family member, you will realize that they are still a part of your family. Bitter moments can be forgiven if you’ll understood each other.
Because Kirino is out of the picture, Kuroneko was given the limelight on the OVA series. And though she may have fought it, we now know that she indeed have feelings for Kyousuke, but she only admitted it when she gave him a “good luck” kiss! Oh, let’s not forget that crazy fujoshi fan Sena Akagi who also became Kuroneko’s rival… I wonder what will happen if Sena meet Kirino?
But here’s one thing to think about… There’s
a Possibility No Way that there Will Be Another Season?
FOCAL POINT: The Kyousuke/Kuroneko pairing (There’s no doubt that they are compatible with each other.)
I THEREFORE CONCLUDE THAT THE SERIES IS VERY GOOD. (too bad the series is quite short. Unless…)
As compared to 100 Days to Heaven and Pure Love/49 Days, Ano Hana is not just focused on the story of a wandering spirit that grants wishes before she goesup peacefully to Heaven, but also things that we do not necessary see on a typical melodrama anime. Each episode, the characters reveal their deepest secrets ever since Meiko “Menma” Honma died from an accident five (5) years ago.
And in the end, they have confessed all of their secrets to each other, which resulted to a tear-jerking moment, and a friendship reunited.
Even if they didn’t surpass, or in the same caliber as the highly-acclaimed anime Clannad, I can say that you might feel emotional when you watch this anime.
The plot and the character design were very impressive, and it reminds me of Toradora and High School of the Dead. Good job for A-1 Pictures for making such a work of art! *standing ovation*
Forgiveness and strong bonds of friendship are the moral lessons for this anime, and contrary to Nora Aunor’s famous line (Walang Himala), there is a miracle. A miracle that could even restore a friendship and feelings that was shattered by an accident. A miracle that could bring hope and motivation for each and everyone.
FOCAL POINT: The Final Episode. But I don’t want to spill the beans on the story, but make sure you prepare a box of tissue paper everytime you watch the anime!
I THEREFORE CONCLUDE THAT THIS ANIME IS A MASTERPIECE. Just like Angel Beats.
I have not included this on my watchlist, but when I saw an elegant cosplayer on TOYCON PH 2011 last month, I suddenly got the urge to to watch GOSICK.
Based on various reviews that I have read, GOSICK is a must-watch anime. Even though the series was produced by BONES (who have produced anime series that ends in a “cliff-hanger”, like Darker Than Black, Soul Eater and recently, Star Driver), they properly delivered the plot and the story from the light novel series.
Despite it’s light & funny moments, the anime has a dark storyline. For example, an underground cult that is able to predict the end of a Great War by sacrificing innocent lives.
As of the moment, I’m still watching the series. I quite impressed with Victorique’s intelligence and cuteness at the same time. Its not surprising that her seiyuu is Aoi Yuuki who also the dubbed Saint Madoka! I’m also amazed over Kujo’s chivarly and loyalty over the young detective.
There are so many things I could say about this, but I’m not finished watching the series. So, for now…..
FOCAL POINT: Victorique de Blois (she’s very cute but not as spoiled as Hakase)
MY PRELIMINARY HYPOTHESIS: VERY GOOD (but I will change it after I’ve watched the whole anime…)
These titles have started in the spring and will probably run until the end of summer.
I had predicted that Nichijou will be run into a 24-26 episodes basis just like other KyoAni titles K-ON and Lucky Star.
But I’m surprised that there are character development happening in the anime series.
Hakase allows Nano to go to school, even if she did it just to eat some snacks during lunch. Well… despite that, I’m glad that Nano can now go to school and find new friends at the same time.
As for Yuuko, who still suffers from a massive unfortunate events, like failure in the exams, I hope that there’s miracle within her or else it is actually her fate for being such a loser!
I sense that a villain might emerge and could possibly be the biggest threat on the anime series.
Like Nichijou, Ao no Exorcist (Blue Exorcist) extends its run.
As I observed, the first season were focusing over the developments of Okimura brothers (Rin and Yukio), who are both studying at True Cross Academy.
They met various people inside the campus, such as the Shiemi Moriyama and Ryuji “Bon” Suguro, but one character whom I still consider mysterious is no other than the chairman of True Cross Academy’s Japanese branch Mephisto Pheles.
His motives are still unknown, and I feel something odd towards him when he is planning some weird things for his younger brother Rin.
Finally, the original anime dubbed as “The Male Counterparts of the Puella Magi”, Tiger and Bunny extends as well. And as expected, there has been some developments between two main characters.
After defeating Jake Martinez, a NEXT (a mutant whose abilities were much similar to DTB’s Contractors) who threatened Sternbild City, Barnaby Brooks Jr (probably the male Homura Akemi) has just start addressing Kotetsu Kaburagi’s first name instead of the “Old Man” and has accepted “Bunny” as his nickname.
In the end, Bunny was hailed as the “King of Heroes” in his debut, while Wild Tiger ranked 4th, which is meant that he’s now improving compare from the previous seasons of Hero TV (not the anime channel in the Philippines!).
I’m gonna be surprised if another villain, aside from Lunatic, will appear in the city, and his/her power might be more powerful… just like Madoka Magica’s Walpurgis Night.
So there you have it guys, and watch out as I feature my anime recommendations from this season in about… three months.
I Therefore Conclude… that we will be back soon. For now, Bye-bee!
