Producer: Madoka to be made into film trilogy.
The news was first announced in the cover page of Newtype‘s December issue.
A scan of the cover circulated on the Internet, but suspicion grew that the story about the Madoka film was a hoax since the circulated cover scan included a mock “poster” of the said movie.
Later, the anime department of HMV, a retailer of optical media in Japan, apologized on its Twitter account for the widespread speculation regarding the Madoka film project.
They “clarified” that the “real” Newtype cover featured the Lyrical Nanoha anime franchise.
Newtype later confirmed that its December issue will indeed feature the announcement of the upcoming Madoka film project. HMV has since reaffirmed Newtype‘s confirmation.
In an interview with Newtype featured in the said issue, Madoka anime producer Atsuhiro Iwakami said that the anime series will be made into a film trilogy.
The first two films will be a recap of the entire series, while the third will feature an entirely new story.
