Filipino cosplayer Robert Wong also wins RCC Singles Cosplay Showcase.
Just as the whole country was celebrating (and/or doubting) Manny Pacquiao’s latest victory from inside the boxing ring, three more Filipinos emerged victorious, this time on the cosplay front.
Team March Omega: Zhel & AC, representing the Philippines, emerged as grand champions of this year’s Regional Cosplay Championship (RCC) held Sunday at Anime Festival Asia 2011 in Singapore.
The team cosplayed as Warrior of Light & Gabranth from Final Fantasy: Dissidia.
Team Philippines bested four other cosplay teams from around Southeast Asia, with Team Thailand (NeKo: Onnies & Seiz) taking second place, and Team Indonesia (OPJ Duo Kamvret: Widy & Rian) taking third.
Team March Omega won a trip for two to Tokyo, Japan courtesy of All-Nippon Airways (ANA), and a Canon Powershot G12.
Zhel & AC, whose real names are Zhel Guiral and Amado Carl Hernandez respectively, first won as the Cagayan de Oro representatives for this year’s Cosplay Tournament of Champions, then as grand champions of ToRCh. One of the prizes the team won includes representing the Philippines in RCC 2011.
Meanwhile, Filipino cosplayer Robert Wong also won the AFA 11 Choice Award in the RCC Singles Cosplay Showcase.
He cosplayed as a Zaku Custom from the Gundam franchise.
Wong won a cash prize of SG$500 (about PhP 16,900) and a Canon Powershot G12.
