Tweens across Asia are set to begin the new year with a brand new anime time slot just for them on Animax! Beginning 9 January 2012, from 4 – 6pm on weekdays, children 8 – 14 years old will enjoy Ani-chan, a dedicated two-hour slot with their favourite anime series, beginning with the blockbuster hit anime series Naruto, along with the amusing, wacky and loveable Sergeant Keroro.
The tween anime slot specially caters to pre-teens who are growing to enjoy more complex and engaging stories than those of traditional cartoon series that they have grown up watching. They are also identifying better with more inspiring and multi-faceted characters that are characteristic of anime series. The 4 – 6pm slot is also perfect for these children to enjoy a break after returning from school and before having dinner.
Premiering 9 January and airing weekdays at 4.30pm, Naruto is based on the best selling ongoing manga series of the same title, and is one of the most popular anime series of all time with an enormous following around the world. Naruto follows the titular adolescent ninja Uzumaki Naruto on his epic life of trials and tribulations to become ‘Hokage’, the ninja in his village who is the leader and the strongest of all.
The exciting and action-packed series begins with the orange jumpsuit-clad, spiky yellow-haired, boisterous and determined Naruto, starting out as a junior ninja with his peers. Naruto has to overcome his lack of obvious talent with a never-say-die attitude to make the grade, while coping with an immense and deadly power sealed within his body since birth. With his teammates – the headstrong and talented Sasuke from the elite Uchiha clan and the pink-haired Sakura Haruno – Naruto, together with other aspiring ninjas are mentored by their seniors to be the next generation to take on the mantle.
Following Naruto, viewers will love the comedic anime series Sergeant Keroro which also starts on 9 January and airs weekdays at 5.30pm. The series follows the amusing and disagreeing quintet of colourful frog-like aliens led by the mad-cap and green anti-hero, Sergeant Keroro. Abandoned by their home planet after a failed mission to take over Earth, Keroro and his platoon members are left to seek refuge with humans.
In exchange for putting up at the Hinatas’ home, Keroro ends up as the family’s domestic helper while he tries in vain to revive his team’s doomed mission. Keroro’s dysfunctional platoon is made up of Private Second Class Tamama in black, Keroro’s only gentle supporter who turns violent when provoked; Corporal Giroro in purple is the team’s stern sharpshooter; Sergeant Major Kururu in yellow is the insidious intelligence officer; as well as the often-overlooked assassin in blue, Lance Corporal Dororo. Keroro and his wacky platoon mates are a bungling motley crew full of bickering and silly antics to bring endless laughs to the entire family on Animax!
