Technical delays hamper yearly online poll; categories trimmed down
In a manner deviating from its past editions, Otaku’s Verdict, the premiere anime opinion poll organized by ZEN Otaku Honbu, started its 2011 edition a month from its traditional December opening.
Otaku’s Verdict is the yearly anime poll which tries to pulse the anime otaku with their choices in the categories to give a general outlook on what was the situation in Philippine anime in the year that passed.
Originally, OV2011 was scheduled to be held in December of last year, with the results expected to be released on January, but because of unavoidable technical delays and extensive deliberations, the verdict was moved to this month.
The polls opened on January 15 and will last until the 28th. Results will be released on February 05.
The number of categories were also trimmed and also changed for this edition, with truncated categories in the Terrestrial TV and Popularity sections.
For the Terrestrial section, There are only 4 categories, Anime of The Year, Anime Rerun of the Year, Tokusatsu of the Year and the hotly-contested Terrestrial Channel of the Year.
The organizing committee also decided to remove the “Gold-Silver-Bronze” classification for the Pay TV categories and instead, made a decision to use genre-based classification. Categories for the Pay-TV section are the best anime plums for Action, Comedy, Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi, Teen Romance, Sports, Kids, Tokusatsu and the Pay TV channel of the year, where three new entrants, the returning AXN Philippines and new channels Thrill and Kix.
Not being contested in this year’s OV are the Cosplayer of the Year, Online Game of the Year, The Tagalog-redubbed and the Epic Fail category, among others.
In the events category, The big five anime events, Toycon, Ozine Fest, AME Monogatari, Cosplay Mania and Hero Face Off, along with the once-in-every-five-year TOEInty Five anniversary event and Best of Anime 2011 will battle out in the Major Anime Event of the year, while Nominees for the Minor Event of the Year include The Philippine Cosplay Convention, Tamashii Con, Metro ComiCon, The 5th TAGCOM Toys and Hobbies convention, Otaku Expo 2011 and the second installment of Cosplay’s Got Talent.
The OV Organizers also eased the voting procedure as voters can now vote as many times as they want, as compared to last year when one vote was needed per IP address rule.
Amid all the changes and technical delays, the OV Organizing team is hopeful that Otaku’s Verdict 2011 will equal, if not surpass, the marks set forth by its previous editions with the same hope that it will still pulse the Pinoy otaku on what they think about the Philippine anime scene in 2011.
