The good old times are rolling back as the anime series City Hunter of 1987 vintage comes to Animax!
Produced by Sunrise Studios, the anime studio responsible for hits like Gundam and InuYasha, City Hunter is the anime adaptation of the manga series of the same title published from 1985 – 1991, by artist Tsukasa Hojo, who also spun off the ‘Angel Heart’ manga series.
City Hunter is a classic that inspired four anime TV series, three TV specials, two original video animations, an animated feature film, a live-action Hong Kong film starring Jackie Chan and a Korean live action TV drama.
Meet Ryo Saeba: a ladies’ man, troubleshooter and expert marksman who works the streets of Tokyo as the ‘City Hunter’ – a freelance ‘sweeper’ or private detective who works to rid the city of crime.
With his sidekick Kaori Makimura, he keeps the city clean, when you need more help than the police can provide, he is the solution. People hire the City Hunter to solve their dangerous problems, which he does with a Colt Python.
When calling the police just won’t do, leave an “XYZ” message on the board at Shinjuku Station and the City Hunter will respond to your plea for help, especially if you are a pretty lady!
When Ryo’s not working on a case, he’s working on getting the ladies, and Kaori must keep him in check with her trusty hammer.
If City Hunter can’t solve your problem, no one can.
