One year ago, we did ZEN Before Events, where we gave you fearless, educated and no-nonsense event forecasts and analysis right before you go to your most awaited event. Our first Before Events was Cosplay Mania 2011, where we gave enough details for you to serve as an unofficial guide for the biggest cosplay event of the year. Suffice to say, all the things we expected to happen did happen, including exclusive interviews with the guests of Cosplay Mania 2011.
Now that we are celebrating one year since the very first Before Events post. We are commemorating it with a no-holds barred assessment, analysis, even a prediction on arguably 2012’s Biggest cosplay event. Again, this is an unofficial guide of sorts and we are not responsible for any unexpected changes on the days of the event itself.
So now, without further ado, here is our ZEN Before Events: Cosplay Mania 12…
Cosplay Mania 2011 eclipsed all expectations for the Philippines’ premiere cosplay centric event. Even with the storms that plagued the Metro (there was no PAGASA Color Coding yet at that time), as the saying goes, all roads led to the SM Mall of Asia Complex, specifically at the SMX Convention Center for that year’s biggest cosplay event.
Now, The roads have been paved and it is now back at the SMX Convention Center again for Cosplay’s Biggest Event, With more than 5,000 square meters of floor space, It surely will accommodate each one and all for everyone.
Do expect more things to happen for this year though, like the most awaited Cosplay Tournament of Champions Third Impact, where eight finalists culled from different regions in the country will battle it out for the title of being the Philippines’ ultimate representative to defend our crown at the Anime Festival Asia 2012 Asian Regional Cosplay Championships. Of course, the Project Cosplay Solo and Group competitions will also happen at the main stage area as well
But the fun is not only limited in the main stage area. The finals of the CyberZone Cosplay Grand Prix will be held at the Festival stage area where the different cosplayers culled from the CyberZone Cosplay Grand Prix will also battle out for prizes from SM CyberZone.
The guests for this year are truly more than impeccable. As promised last year, Kaname will be arriving here for the first time ever, alongside fellow Japanese Cosplayer Reika. They will hold a special Meet and greet with the fans who shelled out an additional PHP 500 for the meet and greet pass. Of course, there will be rules on the meet and greet, so better take note of them!
Aside from Kaname and Reika, Jesuke will also be back to join in the fun once more at Cosplay Mania 12. Jesuke was one of the guests for the 2010 staging at the event which was also done for the first time at the SMX.
And because we did manage to snatch an interview with foreign cosplayers last year. We do hope again to get an exclusive interview with them again for ZEN!
Another look see is the participation of Pangilinan-owned TV5 in the event, Remember that before MediaQuest took over the network, it sponsored the 2nd staging of the event and also the CosTube cosplay video making contest. Now, things have changed, and TV5’s participation in the event makes everyone wonder why. But with the stars of TV5 shows “Enchanted Garden”, “Third Eye”, “Kapitan Awesome” and their new series “Kidlat” doing the rounds in the TV5 panel this Saturday, We could probably think that all questions are now answered.
Because of this, the ticket prices have escalated to PHP250 for the single-day pass to the Main and Festival stage areas, and PHP 150 for the Festival stage area passes. Tickets are good for a day, but is acceptable on either days. You can either buy them at SM Tickets outlets or at the event itself, as Cosplay Mania will have a ticket selling counter on the day of the event itself.
But hey, PHP 250 for an event is quite a small figure for the biggies who will grace our shores for this event!
Cosplay Mania sure is one heck of an event that is deserved to be waited. And if you really are a dyed in the wool cosplay aficionado, or an eventgoer who wants to see your favorite characters come to life. This is the event that is surely for you. And as ZEN gives you this guide for the event. Let us say that we will be there to cover our perspectives and provide you the best and the most journalistic coverage of Cosplay Mania ever.
From Here now, See you Inside the Event!
