ZEN Otaku Honbu has learned that the sports anime Chihayafuru, and the final anime adaptation of the hit anime Shakugan no Shana set to premiere on ANIMAX Asia next month.
Chihaya Ayase is a school girl who becomes fascinated by the obscure world of competitive karuta, a card game based on Japanese poetry. Introduced to the aggressive style of the game by a quiet and thoughtful classmate named Arata Wataya, the two quickly become close friends. As Chihaya takes on her dream of becoming Japan’s best karuta player, she is soon separated from her karuta playing friends as they grow up. As high school life begins, they meet once again.
The anime series is an adaptation of a manga series, written & illustrated by Yuki Suetsugu, which is being published on Kodansha magazine Be Love since 2007, and has 19 volumes as of date.
The first anime adaptation was aired in Japan from October 2011 to March 2012, and has 25 episodes. The second adaptation, Chihayafuru 2, premiered last January 11 and is currently airing on NTV in Japan.
Chihayafuru premieres on Wednesday, February 13, and airs Weeknights at 11:00pm, replacing City Hunter 2. The schedule was announced on an episode of ANIMAX’s local interstitial “Ani-time with Alodia” a few weeks ago.
Continuing from the events of the last series, both Shana and Kazumi stand at their respective locations waiting for Yuji to meet with one of them, only to discover that Yuji has disappeared, with not even the slightest evidence of his existence left behind. All is not lost however, as the letters the two of them sent to him still give hope of Yuji’s continued existence. As Shana and company search for answers on Yuji’s whereabouts, they soon find the truth staring back at them when Yuji reappears in front of them as the leader of Bal Masqué. Left with little choice, Shana must now confront her most unlikely adversary on the battlefield in her most difficult challenge yet.
Shakugan no Shana III Final is the third and final anime adaptation of the popular supernatural light novel, written by Yashichiro Takahashi & illustrated by Noizi Ito, published by ASCII Media Works which was published from November 2002 to November 2012 with 26 volumes.
Shakugan no Shana III Final premieres on Wednesday, February 20, and airing Weeknights at 11:30pm.
Both Chihayafuru and Shakugan no Shana III Final were announced previously during ANIMAX Carnival Philippines 2013 as some of the new titles that is set to air in 2013.
In a related story, ANIMAX Asia has announced in a television plug that the channel is set to have “a new look” on Friday, February 01. ZEN Otaku Honbu has learned that the anime channel will revert back to the old logo, which is still used by ANIMAX Japan and ANIMAX Korea.
Last January 1st, ZEN Otaku Honbu has been rebranded as Anime Pilipinas.
