THE LAST TIME The UP Anime and Manga Enthusiasts (AME) held an event was in 2011, where they staged “AME Monogatari” at the World Trade Center’s East Tent Area. Then in 2012, they decided not to hold an event.
The real reason became imminent: They were preparing for a more grander event this year, and they did deliver, via this year’s AME 1 UP, which will be held at the same venue as their last event.
The biggest surprise to hit this year’s installment of the AME fairs is the return of internationally-renowned Japanese Cosplayer Reika, who first went in the country for Cosplay Mania 12 last October alongside another internationally-renowned cosplayer Kaname.
ZEN Otaku Honbu, as a proud sponsor of AME 1UP, will take you inside all the events and happenings at the event, but before that, We will be bringing to you a peek on what will happen on the events scene with our Unofficial Before Events guide on the biggest event of the quarter. AME 1UP.
What to Expect
AME 1 UP promises to be fun filled and full of surprises in store for everyone. Aside from the usual events like the Cosplay Competition, which is now sponsored by Japan-based clothing brand Uniqlo. There will be workshops from iAcademy, and lots of merchandising booths from different merchants and also partner university organizations like the Kyoushigen Letran and others
Bands like Asterysk*, Yui For President, and Moonspeak will provide a rocking jam inside the WTC East Tent Area as well.
The main highlight of the event is the workshops by Japanese cosplayer Reika, She will hold two cosplay workshops, the first workshop is about processing wigs and cosplay make-up at 1:30pm, and the other workshop which is all about accessory-making will happen at 4:30 pm.
Also, a Meet and Greeet with Reika is slated at around 7:00 in the evening where lucky event attendees will have a chance to talk and take pictures with the internationally-renowned Japanese cosplayer.
And of course because the theme for this year is Gaming, Several gaming companies like Garena, League of Legends, Cubizone and Cherry Credits will provide gamers the terminals to unleash their inner gameface on.
And yes, for those of you who would want to post the latest on your social media profile, PLDT will provide high-speed Wireless internet access and also, free internet access kiosks for all attendees!
Do expect that the number of individual cosplayers for this event can go from 150 to 210, based on the past number of individual cosplayers who attended on the previous AME Events.
The Cost of Entering and the Ways on How To enter
For this year, AME 1 UP is going to raise ticket prices from their 2011 levels, to PhP170 on the day itself, and was also sold in advance for Php150.
Also, since the venue is located at the World Trade Center East Tent Area, there are many ways for you to be in the venue on time. If you are from the Northern Quezon City area, Take jeeps going to Blumentritt and once you get there, there are terminals for Jeeps going to Baclaran via Taft Avenue, Take them and tell to the driver to drop you off at Buendia/Gil Puyat and ride those multicabs going to the Mall of Asia but remember to drop off at the WTC Complex!
For those coming from the South, Ride those jeeps going to the Mall of Asia and then connect to those jeeps going to the LRT Buendia Station. For those who are more comfortable riding in the LRT, be sure to end at Gil Puyat Station. Those taking the MRT has to go to Taft Avenue before transferring to the LRT’s EDSA station, Cross only Libertad station and there, you will be in Gil Puyat Avenue!
In all, you might spend at least PHP 250 pesos just for the tickets and the commute, so I suggest you carry at least PHP 450 to 500 to survive AME 1UP!
