The inevitable is finally going to happen, and there’s just no way in hell we can stop it.
Crunchyroll, the popular video-streaming website that streams popular Japanese Anime and other East Asian programming, has announced that they will start streaming the latest episode of BLEACH, starting June 08, an hour after the TV Tokyo broadcast for Crunchyroll Premium subscribers, and will be available a week later for everybody else.
All episodes will be available to all viewers, with the latest simulcast episode available for Premium Members one-hour after TV broadcast in 480p and 720p, then available for all viewers one week later. For subtitles, since BLEACH is already licensed by VIZ Media in the US, VIZ Media will continue to provide the official translation and subtitling for the newest episodes as well. Some of you have given us excellent feedback regarding subtitles, which we forwarded on to Japan. Please note that CR does NOT handle the subtitles for BLEACH (nor Naruto). While we thank you for your comments regarding proposed subtitling vendors for BLEACH, and tried our best to persuade based on your feedback however, we don’t have any control over this matter!
Last Month, When rumours of BLEACH simulcast on Crunchyroll has circulated, the popular fansubbing site, Dattebayo, has said that, “If and when Crunchyroll obtains a streaming license for Bleach, DB will drop it. We’ve considered all the options, and there will be no point in continuing to work on it in its current form.”
It should be known that Dattebayo also fansubbed the other popular anime, Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, and have dropped it last January 15, 2009 when VIZ Media (which also licenced BLEACH and the two anime) has started streaming it on their website for North American territories, and followed by Crunchyroll later on.
Unfortunately for Filipino Anime fans, the Crunchyroll streaming of BLEACH will not available online here in the Philippines at the moment.
Another Quote from Crunchyroll:
Territories We tried really hard to secure as many territories for launch, so please bear with us. For launch, BLEACH will be available to all viewers in North America (US, Canada, Mexico), the Caribbean, Central and South America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
For those who are unaware and still unfamiliar with BLEACH, here is a brief synopsis from Crunchyroll:
BLEACH follows the story of Ichigo Kurosaki. For as long as he can remember, Ichigo Kurosaki has been able to see ghosts. But when he meets Rukia, a Soul Reaper who battles evil spirits known as Hollows, he finds his life is changed forever. Now, with a newfound wealth of spiritual energy, Ichigo discovers his true calling: to protect the living and the dead from evil. And when he vows to defend Rukia from the ruthless justice of the Soul Society, he and his friends must cross over and do battle in the spirit world…
We all hope that the online simulcast will be available in the Philippines very soon, since we have some large following here (NO thanks to GMA-7). But for people who are angry at Crunchyroll, VIZ Media, and Dattebayo, they may tell you something like this: It’s legal, So HATERS GONNA HATE.
Last January 1st, ZEN Otaku Honbu has been rebranded as Anime Pilipinas.
New Name, but still has the same goal in going deeper into the Japanese Anime
& Pop-culture in the country and elsewhere in the world, from a Filipino standpoint.
