ABOUT “MIDORI SEKAI”
Bunká Kôryû Kai (BKK), is a Japan – Philippines cultural exchange club from Adamson University. Last February 10-11, 2010, BKK held its first Nihon fair. The fair included a cosplay competition, a cosplay cafe, eiga sai or movie festival and a singing competition for students taking up Nihongo classes. After a favourable response for the activity, we decided to take it to the next level and cater to a bigger number of participants. Thus we extended the invitation to the different organizations of the same nature from other Universities and Schools. Riding on the popularity of Anime Conventions in the Philippines, the plan is a fair paralleled to the usual conventions – cosplay, booths, and contests among others. The objective initially is to generate income as well as exposure for each of the participating organizations. But true to our ideals of staying relevant, we choose to incline towards a more meaningful and timely cause – that is to think GREEN. Hence, on March 15, 2010, Midori Sekai: It’s A Green World After All…, was conceptualized.
Environmental issues are one of the leading problems the world is facing today. In recent years, the call for an active participation in sustaining and protecting the environment has increased. To answer this call, the participating organizations decided to allocate 10% of the gains from the event (may increase depending on the turnout of the event) will go to two beneficiaries – Genshiken tree planting and Greenpeace. GENSHIKEN, one of the organizers, will have an outreach program that is intended to promulgate awareness of the environment by planting mangrove propagates. According to DENR,
“Mangroves provide nursery grounds for fish, prawns and crabs, and support fisheries production in coastal waters. They also protect the environment and coastal areas and communities from storm surges, waves, tidal currents and typhoons. Mangroves produce organic biomass (carbon) and reduce organic pollution in near shore areas by trapping or absorption.”
The participating organizations will come together and plant mangroves where it is needed. It promotes both camaraderie and environmental stewardship at the same time.
Greenpeace on the other hand, is the leading campaigner for environmental issues. Their work for the environment is known worldwide. We will donate a portion of the proceeds from the event in support of their cause to protect the planet.
This event has been organised by BUNKA KORYU KAI (BKK) of Adamson University, Atarashii Kyoushigen Letran (KYOUSHIGEN) of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Gendai Shikaku bunka Kenyukai (GENSHIKEN) of De La Salle University – Dasmariñas, UP Ongaku Manga Anime Kosuperei Eiga (UP OMAKE) of University of the Philippines – Manila, and Manila Nihongo Club of Manila Science High School.
