New Editorial Board, Columnists and other plans bared.
08 April 2011, MANILA, Philippines – ZEN Otaku Honbu (ZOH or ZEN) starts the 2nd quarter with a brand new look, and brand new messages in line of keeping ahead with the most fresh and relevant anime news and views.
“We wanted to have the ZOH look revitalized as early as last year, that’s why we consulted with our founding admins and senior members got their blessings and approval and then started formulating the other pieces of the ZOH reorganization” said Red/Kira Yamato, Overall Group Managing Editor and in charge of ZEN’s Marketing, Advertising and PR, said.
The revitalized logo, designed by JM/theBlocker, Overall Group Editorial Director and Executive Editor, rehashes the former ZOH logo by retaining the three colored blocks but placing the word “ZEN” on the outside and the news group’s official name. ZEN OTAKU HONBU on the bottom, the old logo’s color scheme is still retained on the box that contains the Red, Green and Blue blocks.
Coinciding with the new logo is a new message that is expected to resonate well with the target audience.
“We developed the message ‘simply here’ because we want our target audience, the anime fan, whether a casual viewer of local or cable anime, a die-hard fan who downloads and waits for the latest titles, or the consummate event-going and cosplaying ‘barkada’, to trust ZOH in providing all the anime news they need and the views they want to express. We are on every web platforms, either on our main website or on our social media sites (Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr), We are just simply here for them.” Yamato, also the group’s Chief Correspondent, said.
“To make our message more effective, we will run different branding campaigns to entice our target audience, hence, we could communicate by saying that if people want anime journalism, the latest anime news, reviews, opinions, blogs, their ZOH fave personalities, etc. It’s all simply here, so we’ll just add those up with ‘is simply here’ at the end” Yamato added.
ZEN Otaku Honbu has also formed their first Editorial Board, which will act as the highest policy making and decision making body (both editorial, non-editorial and administrative aspects) of the news organization.
Elevated to ZEN’s first Editorial Board are the pioneer administrators of the ZOH forums since 2005, the twins Marlo and Carlo/Anime Kabayan and Genjo Sanzo, respectively, Jan Michael/Jamibu, alongside with theBlocker, Kira Yamato and Jan Lorenz/Pinoy Big Narutonian.
“We are deeply connected with ZOH that’s why it was easy for us to form the board without any fuss. And the good thing is that, the organization has agreed on the composition of the board.” theBlocker said.
Alongside the formation of the Editorial board are the appointments of theBlocker, Kira Yamato and Pinoy Big Narutonian to head up editorial and administrative positions. theBlocker as the Group Editorial Director and Executive Editor (GED/EE), who will oversee the Editorial and Non-Editorial operations of ZEN, including the website and social media platforms.
Pinoy Big Narutonian, meanwhile, was appointed as the Group Deputy Executive Editor for Internal Affairs and Supervising Desk Editor (GDEE/SDE), who will assist the GED/EE in matters pertaining to internal affairs and also to check for any grammatical, contextual, and factual errors in articles on the website.
And Kira Yamato will retain his title as ZEN’s Chief Correspondent but will be given additional duties as the Managing Editor and Group Deputy Executive Editor for External Affairs and Overall Marketing, which gives him Advertising, Marketing and PR Duties.
Anime Kabayan, Genjo Sanzo and Jamibu will act as Group Consulting Editors at large.
ZEN will also debut its brand new columns section on its main website. For its introductory offering, two anime bloggers will contribute their energies and their fearless views to the ZOH’s fold.
The First Two columns, which will appear regularly within the website, are Ukiya Seed’s “Ukiya was Bored” and Chevalier-kun’s “Insider, Opinions and More”. Moreover, Pinoy Big Narutonian will also debut his column on ZOH as well, titled “PBN Weighs In”
“Of Course, We, being me and the two new columnists, were the first ones to heed the call, but if other respected anime bloggers will want to contribute for us, we are very much open” PBN stressed.
The 6-year old anime news website, which started in 2004 as a forum that became a vehicle for exchanging views different networks, will also open its doors to its new identity for its followers, dubbed as “CitiZENs”
“We want our CitiZENs to express their opinions, commentaries, reviews or the like, and have the chance to post it on our website. The purpose is not only for our website’s content, but we also envision ZEN as a go to site for our CitiZENs views and opinions so it will help them in forming their decisions.” Their Executive Editor said.
“The website is barely a year old, but we are now making such a splash, and by doing this, we’re not just only lightening up our loads on our backs, but we are also going to find new staffs, new blood to beef up our newsgathering operations and to expand our capabilities” Their Managing Editor added.
Also in the works, according to the ZEN Top brass, are more strengthened partnerships and tieups with anime organizations, Exploring new ways of reporting and also a formulation and adoption of a code of ethics and standards.
