Daughter of former GMA Network Journalist among winners in Solo Category.
Typhoon Quiel’s (International Name: Nalgae) rains, winds and the raising of Metro Manila to Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1 did not stop thousands of fans and cosplay aficionados from flocking to the SMX Convention Center for the first day of Cosplay Mania 2011 Saturday.
The Highlight of the day was the Project Cosplay: Solo competition where 111 cosplayers showed to the audience their creativity and skills to the judges.
The event started with a sizable number of attendees scrambling inside the venue, which was divided into three. Function Hall 3 was open to the public and this is where attendees buy their tickets. Function Hall 4 is the Fiesta Area, where the booths and the exhibitors are showing off their goods to be sold to the event-goers.
Among the exhibitors are the Tuxccessories booth of noted cosplayer Jin Joson.
Function Hall 5 is where the main stage and program is located. This was the venue of the Project Cosplay: Solo Competition and will also hold the Project Cosplay: Group category and the Cosplay Tournament of Champions grand finals to be held Sunday.
One of the international guests, Pinky Lu Xun of Indonesia, held her first ever cosplay workshop in Asia at Cosplay Mania. She told the audience that she is excited to hold her first workshop.
In the workshop proper, she discussed on making Butterfly Fairy Wings to the Filipino audience.
“I am really happy, thank you so much for inviting me” She told the audience after the workshop, After that, she obliged to sign autographs for the holders of the Cosplay Snapshot Project photobook
Then came the Project Cosplay: Solo competition where 111 Cosplayers battled it out for 10 different categories.
One of the winners for the competition was Toni Elise Lozano for the Best in Video Game category, Lozano is the daughter of former GMA Newsman and current Radyo ng Bayan host Tony Lozano and the sister of Radyo Singko 92.3 NEWSFM reporter Tonel Lozano.
Abraham Cruz was crowned as the overall champion of the Individual Cosplay Competition, while Guy Singzon and Jonam Balanad won for Best Male and Female, respectively.
“Day one, this is one best events na inattendan ko (that I have attended), and I’m so excited for tomorrow.” Singson said.
He also said that he was surprised on how many people have attended, even with the spacious location. And also adds, “So happy for the success of first day.”
He invited everyone, especially families, to enjoy Cosplay Mania’s second day, where all the bigger action will happen.
